Spotlight: October 2019 (Part Two)

In part two, we visit 49rs Tavern and Grill, The Cajun Bayou, Fifty One, Greenbelt, and Tangaroa Fish Market & Raw Bar.

1. 49rs Tavern and Grill

The new 49r Tavern is owned by John and Karyn Frisch, who took over and made a few fantastic changes. There are 15 beers on tap and an expanded menu with great burger options, along with a complement of delicious Sabé cocktails. The new patio is a great place to watch a game, play darts or hang out in Captain Johnny’s BBQ area.

2. The Cajun Bayou

At Cajun Bayou, you get to be a kid again and use your hands. They are family-owned, with a friendly staff that strives to create a great dining experience. They have all of your Cajun needs covered, from shrimp to crawfish, along with a pick-your-own cajun spice. In addition to their terrific Sabé cocktails, they’ve also got an excellent beer list.

3. Fifty One

Fifty One Kitchen is an Asian fusion restaurant established to bring authentic ethnic Chinese cuisine to the Western Hemisphere. They have the passion for traditional Chinese, made from scratch cooking juxtaposed with reputable Chinese culinary experts. Everything is hand prepped, including carefully crafted handmade sauces, live seafood and dim sum favorites using only farm-to-table ingredients.

4. Greenbelt
36 Pier Ave, Hermosa Beach, Ca 90254

Shrimp Bunh Mi (slow-cooked shrimp, carrots, radish, cilantro Fresno chilis, and cucumber served on a french roll with a side salad) w/ Sabé Blanco Cucumber Margarita

Greenbelt is located at the Hermosa Beach Pier, and they use fresh ingredients sourced daily from local farmers markets. Their menu features a wide range of entrées, pizzas, salads and appetizers, and they offer up a delicious brunch on Saturdays and Sundays (10am-1pm). In addition to their terrific Sabé cocktails, they also have plenty of craft beer and wine available.

5. Tangaroa Fish Market and Raw Bar

Owned by Mark and Suzy White, Tangaroa Fish Market and Raw Bar brings New Zealand’s freshest seafood to Los Angeles. Tangaroa represents the God of the Sea in New Zealand’s Maori culture. Tangaroa features fresh seafood from across the globe, focusing primarily on products out of New Zealand and the South Pacific. The menu includes a wide range of entrées, burgers, and tacos, along with a fantastic raw bar. In addition to their excellent Sabé cocktails, they’ve also got a wide selection of beer and sake.

Spotlight: October 2019 (Part One)

In the latest edition, we visit Mel’s Drive-In, Bossa Nova Brazilian Cuisine, Oh! Crab and Corner Joint.

1. Mel’s Drive-In

In 1947, Mel Weiss and Harold Dobbs opened the first Mels drive-in restaurant in San Francisco and was a hit all over the city. After 1976 unfortunately Mels hit hard times and closed. Then in 1985 Steven Weiss and Donald Wagstaff decided to bring Mels back into San Francisco and now have expanded to Southern California. Mels strives to keep the spirit of the classic American diner and home style cooking alive in well. They have the classic burgers and fries and home style cooking that even your grandparents will love.

2. Bossa Nova Brazilian Cuisine

Arrabiata (Sliced Pancetta, yellow onions, parmesan, garlic, olive oil, parsley and hot crushed red pepper in a spicy tomato sauce with linguini), Garlic Bread with fresh tomatoes basil and olive oil, and Caipirinha (Sabé Straight, muddled sugar and lime).

3. Oh Crab!

Oh! Crab specializes in Cajun-style boiled seafood where the feature Dungeness and King Crab, Lobster, Crawfish, Shrimp and more. You can get it with a variety of sesoning choices from mild, hot and holy crab hot. They have 8 Beers on tap and cocktails if it gets to hot for you.

4. Corner Joint

Salmon Salad (Mixed green lettuce, avocado, cucumber, red onion and cherry tomatoes with a Lemon Balsamic) and El Catrin (Sabé Copper, chamoy, fresno pepper and tamarind puree)

Corner Joint was built with the idea of providing a relaxing hangout spot so you could take in some delicious food and throw back some cold brewskies. They serve an array of specialty pizza, pasta dishes, sandwiches and much more! In the bar you can find your favorite beers, wines and specialty cocktails.
