Spotlight: August 2019 (Part Two)
This month, we visit Homie Manhattan Beach, The 4th Horseman, Side Bar, Bread and Barley, Fry Madness… and we make a return trip to a prior haunt (Base 51) for a decadent dessert.
2. The 4th Horseman
Bringing the aesthetic of horror-core mixed with high-brow-to-low-brow food offerings, it’s home to one of the few Miller High Life tap handles while offering a slew of independent beer offerings and creative cocktails.
The 4th Horseman has created a viable, community-driven hangout, and Chef Adam Schmalz’s style is wonderfully distinct: not Neapolitan-style, not New York-style, his pizzas are odes to the Californian culture of fusion; a chewy, not-too-thick-not-too-thin crust that comes with an abundance of options.
The Sidebar is a beer and wine bar connected to Oh Crab, serving the best bar-style food from Po’Boy sandwiches to wings and tacos. A great place to play a round of pool and even sing karaoke, it’s owned by John and Michelle, who have come in and turned this small spot into the place to be in Hacienda Heights.
5. Fry Madness
Fry Madness is a specialty french fry bar started by three foodies – Shawn, Tony, and Nima – to create memories and great experiences with America’s favorite food. They deliver a culinary experience that pushes boundaries and elevates the french fry experience, experimenting with sauces, toppings, different types of potatoes and even dessert fries. You can also enjoy wine, beer and cocktails on draft with your french fries.
6. Base 51
LA’s newest entertainment attraction with CXC Motion Pro II Simulators all set to race together which lets you race on the world’s most challenging race tracks and enjoy fantastic cocktails, craft beers, and globally-inspired cuisine.
